Concurrency control in real - time broadcast environments q

چکیده
Owing to the unique characteristics of real-time broadcast environments, serializability is too strong as a correctness criterion and not suitable for mobile real-time transactions. Considering that relaxing serializability such as epsilon and similarity serializability may sacrifice database consistency to some extent, we propose using a correctness criterion called weak serializability. In this paper, we formally define weak serializability at first. After the necessary and sufficient conditions for weak serializability are shown, corresponding concurrency control protocol based on this criterion is outlined for real-time broadcast environments. Finally, in a series of simulation studies, experimental results show that the proposed protocol helps more mobile real-time transactions to meet their deadlines and improves response time while database consistency is maintained. 2002 Elsevier Inc. Maintaining Data Consistency Using Timestamp Ordering in Real-Time Broadcast Environments
The broadcast-based data dissemination in wireless environments poses new challenging issues on data consistency of transaction processing. In this paper, we first adapt the optimistic concurrency control with forward validation to the broadcast environments. The adapted protocol gives autonomy between the mobile clients and the server such that the mobile clients can read consistent data off t...
متن کاملOptimistic Concurrency Control in Broadcast Environments: Looking Forward at the Server and Backward at the Clients
In data broadcast environments, the limited bandwidth of the upstream communication channel from the mobile clients to the server bars the application of conventional concurrency control protocols. In this paper, we propose a new variant of the optimistic concur-rency control protocol that is suitable for the broadcast environments. In this protocol, read-only mobile transactions can be process...
متن کاملEffects of broadcast errors on concurrency control in wireless broadcasting environments
In wireless broadcasting environments, mobile clients cannot receive data reliably over broadcast channels because a reliable transmission protocol is not applicable to the channels. If such broadcast errors are not properly handled by a concurrency control algorithm, it could lead to a fatal effect especially when clients are permitted to issue update transactions. However, the effects of broa...
متن کاملAn energy-efficient mobile transaction processing method using random back-off in wireless broadcast environments
Broadcast is widely accepted as an efficient technique for disseminating data to a large number of mobile clients over a single or multiple channels. Due to the limited uplink bandwidth from mobile clients to server, conventional concurrency control methods cannot be directly applied. There has been many researches on concurrency control methods for wireless broadcast environments. However, the...
متن کاملQuasi-consistency and Caching with Broadcast Disks
Among the concurrency control techniques proposed for transactional clients in broadcast environments, BCC-TI [6] has been demonstrated to have better performance than a simple adaptation of optimistic concurrency control with forward validation. Our work adapts BCC-TI to enforce quasi-consistency [3], and introduces caching. Through simulation experiments, we demonstrate the workload character...
